Coatesville High School Partners with Philadelphia Eagles

Dec 18, 2023 | Coatesville

In an exciting development for the Coatesville High School Athletic Department, a groundbreaking partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles has brought the Girls’ Flag Football program to the heart of Coatesville. The program, which saw over 50 enthusiastic registrations from 10th to 12th-grade girls this fall, is poised to make a significant impact on the local sports scene. The collaboration with the Philadelphia Eagles goes beyond mere support, as they are providing custom uniforms for the teams, complete with a professional photo shoot. Moreover, the Eagles are generously funding the startup costs of the program in each participating district, exemplifying their commitment to fostering grassroots sports development.

One highlight of the partnership is the invitation extended to the coaches for a weekend of training at the esteemed NovaCare Complex. This unique opportunity not only enhances the coaching skills but also serves as an inspiration for both coaches and players alike.

All participating teams are invited to a grand Football Jamboree, where they can scrimmage, train, and exhibit their skills. Last year’s event witnessed the participation of over 1200 girls, and with 38 teams already in the Philadelphia league in 2023, the trajectory points towards the Girls’ Flag Football program becoming a sanctioned varsity sport in Pennsylvania.

Recognizing the busy schedules of high school athletes, the league has strategically scheduled games on Sundays. This enables participants to engage in other spring sports while being a part of this empowering and inclusive initiative. The league actively encourages multi-sport participation, fostering a well-rounded athletic experience for the girls involved. Looking ahead, the growth of the program is evident, with plans to expand significantly for the Spring of 2024. The addition of more teams indicates the widespread interest and enthusiasm for girls’ flag football, suggesting that it won’t be long before it gains official varsity sport status in the state.

The collaboration between Coatesville High School and the Philadelphia Eagles is a testament to the power of partnerships in promoting inclusivity and creating opportunities for young athletes to excel.
